Ralph writes character-driven historical fiction and short stories that travel from the high plains to the high seas. His work favors clear prose, lived-in detail, and choices that carry real consequences. If you like honest storytelling—and worlds that feel walked through—you’re in the right place.

Ralph Korn is a retired risk manager and lifelong storyteller whose writing journey began in 1956. Over the decades, he has crafted short stories and novels that often center on people in outdoor settings and the lives and traditions of Native Americans. A graduate of Loyola University in Chicago with a BSC, Ralph combines his professional discipline with a deep appreciation for human experience and the natural world.
Beyond writing, he enjoys collecting cufflinks, a personal hobby that reflects his eye for detail and history. His published works include Cougar, A Time to Remember, and The Leopard and the Swan.
JK Worth is an author and adventurer who splits his time between the mountains of Montana and the waters of the Gulf and Atlantic. Inspired by the landscapes he calls home, he crafts historical fiction that brings the Flathead Valley to life. When not writing, you can find him cruising aboard his yacht, “Big Sky,” or exploring the natural wonders of Montana.
Set on the wind-swept plains of what is now Nebraska, The Saga of Never Smiles follows a fifteen-year-old Santee Sioux boy coming of age under a sky full of ancestors and approaching storms. Guided by his parents, Pale Moon and Blue Elk, and bound to his Paint stallion, Eagle, he learns the patience of the hunt and the weight of legacy.
As iron rails creep across the prairie and buffalo hunters leave fields of bones, Never Smiles must choose what to protect—and how—while love for Woman Who Walks and duty to his people pull him toward manhood. From horse raids to the echoes of Fort Phil Kearny, this is a story about family, survival, and the sacredness of land.

A coming-of-age on the Northern Plains: a Santee Sioux youth, the family that shapes him, and a land pulled tight by fences, rail, and hunger for the buffalo. The book is quiet where it should be and fierce where it must be—about belonging, responsibility, and what we protect when we can’t protect everything.
A taut, sea-salt historical: two boys from enemy ships—an English powder monkey and a French press-gang captive—are hurled into the same battle and the same choice: survive, or become the sea’s next story. Cannon decks, press gangs, a Spanish corvette, and the church’s quiet intrigues turn fate into a second life. If you want oak-and-iron realism with a human pulse, start here.
Two compact, memorable pieces: an elder on the Rosebud Reservation remembers the day the world changed—and a hungry Arizona cougar stalks the edge where wildland meets porch light. Different settings, same through-line: ordinary lives meeting hard truths, written without varnish. Great entry point if you want Ralph’s voice in one sitting.

“If you think you know ‘frontier’ stories, this one surprises you. The choices feel real, the consequences land, and there’s a scene with a stolen pony I’m still replaying in my head.”
Alexander M. Reader
“What hooked me wasn’t the battles; it was the small moments—council fires, a glance across a crowd, a vow whispered to the wind. When the big turn comes, it hurts because you care.”
Priya N. Reader
“As a horse person, I rarely see the bond written convincingly. Here, Eagle isn’t a prop—he’s a partner. That relationship alone is worth the read.”
Mateo G. Reader
“Not glossy, not cynical—just honest. Our book club argued about the ending for an hour, which tells you all you need to know.”

“I opened it for a minute and ended up finishing at 2 a.m. It starts quiet—a boy, a horse, a family—and then the world closes in. The last third is a gut punch in the best way.”
